A review of federal funding awards shows that a number of SBIR and STTR projects are being funded. The SBIR website provides a bounty of award information especially for DoD and NASA albeit not always quite up to date. National Science Foundation (NSF)
Application Deadline: July 2nd, 2025
NSF funds almost all areas of technology and market sectors (with the exception of clinical trials). Their next SBIR Phase I application deadline is July 2, 2025 provided you have an invitation to apply. To receive an invitation, submit a Project Pitch. Project pitches are accepted year-round and reviewed quickly. Some topics of interest include Advanced Manufacturing, Chemical Technologies, Cybersecurity and Authentication, Energy technologies, Space, and more. Awardees have the opportunity to win up to $305k for their Phase I applications.
National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Ignite
Application Deadline: July 22, 2025
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Ignite application is now open, due July 22, 2025. Get started on your application today with TurboInnovate. Ignite topics include Advanced Manufacturing, AI and Robotics. Awardees have the opportunity to win up to $150k for their Phase I applications and $850k for their Phase II applications.
New funding opportunities are available through the NIH Omnibus SBIR solicitation, with awards of up to $306,000 for innovators advancing breakthroughs in national health. This open-topic call lets you share your unique vision, as long as it aligns with the NIH mission.
With 126 topics open or in pre-release, and new topics being released every first Wednesday of the month, DoD provides ample opportunities to explore alternative applications of your dual use technology. Some example topics include: AI Enabled Source Selection for Contract Proposal Evaluation; Bridge Health Monitoring System; Novel AI Techniques for Insights in Various Environments (NATIVE); Optimized Vertical Axis Wind Turbine for Remote Power Generation; Efficient, Compact Seawater Electrolysis and Product Storage for Medical and Energy Applications; Tunable Vacuum-Ultraviolet (VUV) Laser Source.

AFWERX will be opening their Phase I applications this July. Topics are expected to be released, and applications can be accepted starting July 2, 2025. Applicants can be awarded up to $75k for successful Phase I SBIR applications and $110k for successful Phase 1 STTR applications.
